Families are referred to Family Preservation by agencies with the authority to recommend that children be placed outside the home. The New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) pays for the cost of the program. There is no cost or fee involved for families to participate.
Families who are eligible for the program include:
- Families who have one or more children at imminent risk of first time out of home placement
- Families with one or more children who have been in temporary placement and are returning home and there is a risk of placement reoccurring.
- Families with one or more children living at home and at imminent risk of placement who were previously in placement, shelter, detention center, or foster care for any duration.
